Indiana Democratic Party 1-5-19 Weekly Radio Address Podcast

Chairman John Zody and the Indiana Democratic Party 1-5-19 Weekly Radio Address Podcast.

TRANSCRIPT:

This is Chairman John Zody, bringing you the weekly podcast for the Indiana Democratic Party.

In November, we made history here in Indiana and across the country. The Indiana House Democratic Caucus is the first caucus in our state to have more than 50 percent women legislators. We added seven new female state representatives, five of whom were first-time candidates. Additionally, two of the caucus’ top leaders are women of color.

In Washington, a record-setting Congress with over 100 women lawmakers were sworn in to office and Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi retook the gavel. Hoosiers are seeing the strength of our voices when we all vote for change and set a standard of integrity in our leaders.

It is exciting to see our government officials reflect our communities. More women with a seat at the table on issues like equality, wages, cost of living, health care and many others will only make our state and nation stronger. The 2019 legislative session will bring action to what our first-time and incumbent candidates stood for as they campaigned fiercely last fall. They will continue fighting for Hoosier families and standing up to the Indiana GOP supermajority that has created a culture of out of touch leaders and cronyism.

Now, we’re building the bench and laying down the framework to build our Party for years to come. Finding and training activists to run for office in 2019 and 2020 will not only continue the progress we saw in the midterms, but it will make it last. More women, first-time and Millennial candidates stepped up in 2018. Now it’s time to go further.

Next Saturday, the Indiana Democratic Party will host our first training of the new year, in partnership with the National Democratic Training Committee. We’re at capacity – which shows the energy that is still burning across our state for getting Democrats elected. This daylong municipal candidate training will focus on campaign basics for those thinking of running for office this year.

If you want to be a part of the Indiana Democratic Party and the future of Indiana, go to Indems.org/join to keep up with opportunities to get involved.

Also, please follow the IDP on Facebook and Twitter. Simply search INDems – that’s I-N-D-E-M-S on Facebook and Twitter, and follow us to get the latest news about our candidates and what we’re doing to hold our counterparts at the Statehouse and in Washington accountable.

Thank you for listening, and Happy New Year.
