TRANSCRIPT:

  • This is Chairman John Zody, bringing you the weekly podcast for the Indiana Democratic Party.
  • Last week as Hoosiers were beginning their holiday weekends, the Pence Administration suddenly terminated a controversial public relations contract with PR firm Porter Novelli.
  • This contract was paid for solely by taxpayer dollars and was intended to repair the economic panic and mess Governor Pence caused when he signed the RFRA into law.
  • So on Monday, the Indiana Democratic Party sent a formal records request to Governor Pence and his administration, making a call to release all documents included in the $2 million contract with the NY based PR firm.
  • The termination of the contract cost Hoosier taxpayers $365,000 and leaves many others scratching their heads wondering what good came out of this contract.
  • Hoosier taxpayers deserve a refund by Mike Pence as well as the right to know why their hard-earned tax dollars are being mismanaged by our state’s leaders.
  • With the middle class struggling to make ends meet each day, families should have faith that today’s problems are being solved with commonsense ideas rather than politically-fueled ideology.
  • What’s worse – Mike Pence believes Indiana has recovered from what he characterized as a “difficult week” and the $250 million economic panic he caused the state when he signed the bill into law.
  • Governor Pence is so convinced, in fact, that his administration and the Indiana Economic Development Corporation recently used a CNBC article citing what he believes to be good economic news as a reason he abruptly severed the contract with Porter Novelli.
  • The article Mike Pence used to justify this kneejerk move has some fuzzy math and exposes the overall transparency problem he has with hardworking Hoosiers.
  • Mike Pence’s economy needs a bit of PR help if he wants to convince Hoosiers the state’s economy is ‘on the horizon’ of historic employment levels.
  • What’s clear is that the state is as divided as ever and middle class families don’t feel this “momentum” in their pocketbooks.
  • From ranking 44th in the nation for economic growth last year to Hoosiers making 86 cents to every one American dollar, the hardworking Hoosier is falling behind the rest of the nation.
  • You can be told your state is the best for doing business, but if you rank among the worst in issues like workforce participation and quality of life, even fuzzy math can’t sell it as “success.”
  • Mike Pence needs to own up to our state’s problems and start solving them for Hoosiers.
  • And overall, Hoosier families need answers, and the Pence Administration isn’t giving them. We can do better than having Mike Pence as the Governor of Indiana.
  • Thank you for listening.
