Indiana Democratic Party 9-26-15 Weekly Radio Address

Chairman John Zody deliviers the Indiana Democratic Party’s 9-26-15 weekly radio address: “Hoosiers want a governor who will fight to solve today’s problems for the hardworking family instead of putting the state’s coveted “Hoosier Hospitality” and “Crossroads of America” reputations in jeopardy.”

TRANSCRIPT:

  • This is Chairman John Zody, bringing you the weekly podcast for the Indiana Democratic Party.
  • This week, Hoosiers were given another indication that Governor Pence is as vulnerable as ever when one of Indiana’s top political reporters rated Indiana’s governor’s race as a “toss up”.
  • This analysis shows that Hoosiers know they can do better than Mike Pence and his out of touch ideology.
  • The Governor can tout his sluggish economy all he wants, but it does not overshadow the fact that everyday Hoosiers are tired of Gov. Pence portraying the economy as ‘strong’ and having ‘momentum’ when they clearly aren’t seeing this economic strength improve their overall well-being.
  • Hoosiers want a governor who will fight to solve today’s problems for the hardworking family instead of putting the state’s coveted “Hoosier Hospitality” and “Crossroads of America” reputations in jeopardy.
  • In addition, a new report this week exposed the latest scandal with the Indiana Department of Transportation as it was discovered that the agency wasted over $70 million in taxpayer dollars with a deficient mixture of asphalt used to pave our state’s roads.
  • As a result, this mixture could cause Indiana’s already D+ rated infrastructure system to crack and break down about 30% faster than normal.
  • We’ve seen what happens when Governor Pence and Statehouse Republicans are late to the game to fix Indiana’s roads and bridges, but now they throw the blame on others after they approved an asphalt mixture that only temporarily fixes the problem.
  • This is not the kind of leadership Hoosiers deserve.
  • Governor Pence has yet to present a commonsense plan to fix our crumbling highway system, and he continues to hold Indiana back from its full potential.
  • Hoosiers, we deserve better than the out of touch leadership of Mike Pence and the supermajorities in the Indiana Statehouse. We must come together and make sure we elect a new governor and a US Senator in 2016 – one who will unite and improve the lives of all Hoosiers across Indiana.
  • Until that time comes, Democrats in Indiana will continue to talk about ways in which we can do better for Indiana’s economy, our education system, and for the overall well-being of Hoosiers.
  • Finally, on behalf of the Indiana Democratic Party, we all mourn the loss of former State Representative and House Ways & Means Chairman Bill Crawford of Indianapolis.
  • Simply put, he was an icon.
  • In his 40 years of service to Hoosiers in the Indiana House of Representatives, Rep. Crawford fought hard for fiscal responsibility, equal rights and to give everyone a fair chance in our state.
  • He also embodied service to his community and stood as an example of leadership to all who knew him.
  • Indiana Democrats are saddened by the loss of one of our champions, and we will truly miss this Hoosier.
  • Thank you for listening.
