Indianapolis Colts Give Castonzo Contract Extension

The Indianapolis Colts today agreed to terms on a contract extension with tackle Anthony Castonzo.

“Left tackles like Anthony Castonzo are hard to come by,” said Colts General Manager Ryan Grigson. “He’s a team first guy that works as hard at his craft as anyone I have ever been around regardless of position. His desire to be great literally consumes him and he is a shining example of the sacrifice it truly takes every single day to be at the top of his game come Sunday. From ownership on down we are all extremely happy that AC will be wearing the horseshoe for many years to come. ”

Castonzo, 6-7, 311 pounds, was drafted by the Colts in the first round (22nd overall) of the 2011 NFL Draft. He has started all 60 games he has played in during his NFL career. Castonzo has played in and started 56 consecutive games, dating back to his rookie season in 2011. His streak is currently the fifth-longest among active NFL tackles. He’s blocked for quarterback Andrew Luck (2012-14) who has thrown for the most passing yards (12,957) in the first three seasons of a quarterback’s career in NFL history.

In 2014, Castonzo started all 16 games and three postseason contests at left tackle. He participated in 1,090 offensive plays, which led all NFL players, and assisted a Colts offense that set a franchise single-season record for net yards (6,506) and net passing yards (4,894). Castonzo became the first Colts offensive lineman to score a touchdown since 2008 when he caught a one-yard touchdown pass on Nov. 16, 2014 against New England. He started all 16 games at left tackle and both postseason contests in 2013. Castonzo helped pave the way for the Colts to average 341.8 net yards per game, which included a 108.9 rushing average, the team’s highest mark since 2006. In 2012, he started all 16 games and his first postseason game at left tackle. Castonzo provided protection for quarterback Andrew Luck to record the most passing yards (4,374) and 300-yard passing games (six) by a rookie in NFL history. As a rookie in 2011, he started all 12 games he played in at left tackle and was not flagged for a single holding penalty during the season.
