Baron Hill for Indiana calls out Marlin Stutzman for putting ideology ahead of Hoosier families
Stutzman ranked 435th among members of Congress for working across the aisle
Baron Hill for Indiana Campaign Manager Luke Quandt called out Marlin Stutzman today for being ranked last in the Lugar Center’s 2015 Bipartisan Index.
“Marlin Stutzman puts his radical right-wing ideology ahead of working Hoosier families,” said Hill campaign manager Luke Quandt. “He would rather shut down the government than fix problems like stagnant wages and making college affordable for our students. Indiana has a long history of electing moderate, bipartisan senators like Richard Lugar and Joe Donnelly who understand doing what’s best for Indiana comes before ideology. That is the kind of leader Baron Hill will be.”
The 2015 House rankings were released by the Lugar Center Monday. The rankings were created “to measure how well members of opposite parties work with one another.” Stutzman tied for last out of 438 members with Kevin McCarthy of California and Trent Kelly of Mississippi. During his time in Congress, Stutzman has been a member of far-right Freedom Caucus and routinely cast votes shutting down the government.
In contrast, Baron Hill was routinely ranked as one of the most bipartisan and centrist members of the House during his time in Congress. For example, in 2009 Hill was ranked as the 9th “most independent” Democrat by CQ Weekly because of his votes against new spending and the Wall Street bailout. In 2007, Hill was ranked as the 3rd “most centrist” member of the House by National Journal because of his opposition to raiding the Social Security Trust Fund and against rules limiting amendments on the House floor.
