Quick Recap: Purdue Knocks Off Michigan 76-59, Will Play For Big Ten Tournament Title
INDIANAPOLIS | IN – The Purdue Boilermakers have paved their way for a chance at the Big Ten Conference Tournament tomorrow after knocking off Michigan, 76-59. Purdue Center A.J. Hammons stole the show scoring 27 points, 11 rebounds and 3 blocks. The presence of Purdue’s big men have kept them in talks as one of the best teams coming out of the Big Ten. Vince Edwards helped add to that with 13 points of his own, hitting a put away 3 point shot late in the 2nd half to stop Michigan from surging back.
It was a disappointing loss for Michigan who just 24 hours prior had topped the number one ranked team coming into the tournament in Indiana. The size advantage that Purdue had took a toll on them early in a must win game to keep their NCAA Tournament hopes alive.Michigan’s Zak Irvin went 5-16 from the field with only 11 points. Michigan was unable to provide the big time three point shot when they needed it most, shooting on 23% from the arch in the second half. More importantly, despite being able to make it to the semi-finals of the Big Ten Conference Tournament and upsetting the outright conference champions, Michigan will await to see if they are one of the last teams selected in the tournament.
