Indiana Democratic Party 1-21-17 Weekly Radio Address Podcast
Chairman John Zody and the Indiana Democratic Party 1-21-17 weekly radio address podcast:
“Without a focus and plan for how to grow wages in our state, Hoosiers will continue to fall behind the rest of the nation. Our unemployment rate may be low here, but we’re left wondering how many jobs people might be working just to make ends meet – and we must do better.”
Transcript:
This is Chairman John Zody, bringing you the weekly podcast for the Indiana Democratic Party.
Last week, I talked to you about the inauguration of our new governor. I told you that while we hope for a new era in the Statehouse, our state’s problems didn’t go away after the November 8 election.
In his State of the State Address this week, Governor Holcomb offered few details on his plans for our state – and offered ZERO detail on one major issue: that of wages. In fact, the word “wage” wasn’t even mentioned in his speech even one time.
Without a focus and plan for how to grow wages in our state, Hoosiers will continue to fall behind the rest of the nation. Our unemployment rate may be low here, but we’re left wondering how many jobs people might be working just to make ends meet – and we must do better.
And of course, this week’s other big news was the inauguration of President Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence. While that is still sinking in this weekend – thousands of Hoosiers – and thousands more Americans across this country – are springing to action to keep up the fight.
In fact, when I’m done sharing these words with you, my family and I will be heading to Indianapolis to participate in the Women’s March being held at the Indiana Statehouse.
Only together can we resist dramatic changes to our healthcare system, to Medicare, resist rollbacks in equality and civil rights – all the things we believe contribute to a better quality of life for all of us. In doing so, I hope all of us remain vigilant in watching what happens both at the Indiana Statehouse – and in Congress as two new administrations take shape.
The Indiana Democratic Party will be doing all it can to keep Hoosiers informed about things happening in our government – and to let people know how they can help by taking action.
Please follow the IDP on Facebook and Twitter. Simply search INDems – that’s I-N-D-E-M-S on Facebook and Twitter, and follow us to get the latest news about our candidates and what we’re doing to hold our counterparts at the Statehouse and Washington accountable.
Only together can we work towards a brighter and more progressive state for Hoosiers of all walks to life to fully thrive in.
Thank you for listening.
