TRANSCRIPT:

  • This is Chairman John Zody, bringing you the weekly podcast for the Indiana Democratic Party.

  • Pot, meet kettle. Vice President Mike Pence got caught in an unethical and reckless email scandal of his own, conducting state business on his AOL account when he was Indiana Governor. Early this week, I demanded Governor Holcomb release more specifics on public emails Pence sent through a private server, noting the path toward regaining the public trust must involve full disclosure. The media is reporting the Pence administration delayed disclosing the emails during the 2016 campaign, an action that certainly seems like a political calculation on the part of Team Pence.
  • Also at the Statehouse, Indiana Senate Republicans blocked a measure to expressly outlaw hate crimes in Indiana – we’re 1 of only 5 states without one. Senate Republicans’ callous move came on the same day a bomb threat was called into a Jewish Community Center in Indianapolis. This measure is likely dead for the remainder of this year’s session.
  • Statehouse Republicans trumpeted a report from US News and World Reportthat ranked Indiana’s state government first, but nearly dead last for our state in overall public health, mental health and infant mortality rate. Indiana Republicans continue to ignore the tough issues that impact the well-being of Hoosier families. It’s almost like they are out-of-touch with the reality working families face every day. Go figure.

  • In Washington, United States Senator Joe Donnelly called on Attorney General Jeff Sessions to recuse himself from any further probing of Donald Trump’s relationship with Russia, stating: “The American people deserve a fair and thorough investigation.” Donnelly had previously called for a bipartisan congressional investigation into Russian meddling during the 2016 election. It’s time for Congressional Republicans to heed that call.

  • And finally, for Indianapolis listeners, Congressman André Carson is teaming up with local community organizations and businesses to hold a Youth Opportunities Fair on March 6from 12-7p at the Indianapolis Central Library. Just another example of how Congressman Carson continues to connect Hoosier families to economic opportunities.

  • Only together can we fight for fairness, the future and work towards a brighter and better state for Hoosiers of all walks of life to succeed in working and raising a family.

  • Thank you for listening.
