Chair John Zody and the Indiana Democratic Party 1-13-18 Weekly Radio Address Podcast:

We’re for strong communities, with good schools and good-paying jobs. For communities where Hoosiers can start a business, raise a family and live healthy, fulfilling lives.

TRANSCRIPT:

This is Chairman John Zody, bringing you the weekly podcast for the Indiana Democratic Party. And today, I want to talk about the future.

No, not flying cars or robots, but the future of our Party. I can describe it to you in one word: energized. I know because I’ve seen it. Let me explain.

Last Saturday, 200 Hoosiers packed a conference room in Indianapolis to learn how to start, run and win a race for elected office. The temperature was hovering around 0 when the training got started, but that didn’t stop Hoosier Democrats from around the state from attending.

They were there to learn what it takes.

And they got a primer on how to raise money, organize and communicate a strong message. They learned and laughed with one another. And the State Party learned from them as well.

We can’t just talk about the things we’re against. There’s a lot to be against right now – but we need to talk about the things we are for.

We’re for strong communities, with good schools and good-paying jobs. For communities where Hoosiers can start a business, raise a family and live healthy, fulfilling lives.

And we’re for folks stepping up and getting involved to make a difference in their communities. And that’s why last Saturday was so energizing.

Many of the folks in the room were first-time candidates and millennials. Hoosiers who have decided that enough is enough, who want to make change in their communities.

So I walked out of the training Saturday feeling good about what’s in store for the future. We won’t take anything for granted and we can’t kid ourselves. It’s going to take hard work.

There’s no doubt in my mind that our opponents will be spending unlimited sums of money to beat us, to distort our message and do whatever it takes to maintain the status quo.

But after spending Saturday surrounded by the next generation of Hoosier Democrats, I can’t help but feel hopeful. Their energy was endless and their desire to make change so genuine, it’s hard for me not to get excited. They certainly won’t get outworked. And neither will the Indiana Democratic Party.

The future looks bright.

Only together can we fight for fairness, the future and work toward a brighter and better state for Hoosiers of all walks of life to succeed in working and raising a family.

Thank you for listening.
