TRANSCRIPT:

This is Chairman John Zody, bringing you the weekly podcast for the Indiana Democratic Party.

This week, Hoosiers gave their resounding support for the commonsense, inclusive approach of the Indiana Democratic Party by electing 55 Democratic mayors across Indiana, including Joe Hogsett in Indianapolis.

With these victories, now more than 2.2 million Hoosiers living in our cities will be led by Democrats who believe in the ideas that will help solve today’s problems facing the everyday family.

And as of January, Democratic Mayors will also lead seven of Indiana’s 10 biggest cities.

The Indiana Democratic Party isn’t just building its bench, it has a solid foundation of strong, proven leaders who have visions to help unite and improve the lives of all hardworking Hoosiers in communities across our state.

It’s this confidence from Hoosiers that will help the Indiana Democratic Party fight for the election of more problem-solving Democrats in 2016 and beyond.

And after a great election night on Tuesday, the Indiana Democratic Party kicked off 2016 this week and announced our formal endorsement for John Gregg to be the next governor of the Hoosier State.

This unanimous endorsement by the Democratic State Central Committee comes at a time when Indiana is on the verge of losing its identity.

Indiana is a state about fairness where we show our Hoosier Hospitality to friends and visitors along the Crossroads of America – all of which has been lost by the ideology and out of touch agenda of Governor Mike Pence.

From signing RFRA to slamming the door on Pre-K expansion – and to widening the wage gap for middle class workers and neglecting our state’s crumbling infrastructure system, Mike Pence has shown that he governs from crisis to crisis, and will choose his ideology over Hoosiers 100% of the time.

We can do better, and it begins by electing John Gregg as our next governor.

And finally, this week showed Governor Mike Pence to be as vulnerable as ever heading into the 2016 election year.

A new WISH-TV/Ball State Hoosier Survey shows the governor’s approval rating has dropped 15 points from the same survey a year ago – down to 47%.

And not only is the governor’s race a statistical tie, but Mike Pence’s approval rating has not budged since he signed RFRA into law last spring.

Statehouse Republicans are in denial if they think they are in the clear after bowing to special interests and throwing Indiana into a $250 million economic panic earlier this year.

This RFRA hangover has caused Governor Pence to continue his late to the game strategy on solving today’s problems for everyday Hoosiers, including putting our other reputation – ‘Crossroads of America’ – in jeopardy.

Simply put, Hoosiers are tired of Mike Pence’s political agenda, and poll after poll shows they are ready to choose a leader who won’t put their out of touch ideology ahead of our state’s overall well-being.

Hoosiers, we can do better than having Mike Pence as our governor. This begins by electing Democrats who will bring forth commonsense ideas that would help lead Indiana and the entire nation into the future.

We deserve better than Mike Pence and Statehouse Republicans leading our state. We must come together and make sure we elect John Gregg as our next Governor and a Democratic US Senator – one who will unite and improve the lives of all Hoosiers across Indiana – and we must return Glenda Ritz to the Superintendent’s office in 2016.

Until that time comes, Democrats in Indiana will continue to talk about ways in which we can do better for Indiana’s economy, our education system, and for the overall well-being of Hoosiers.

Thank you for listening.
