Downtown Indy’s New Year’s Eve Celebration returns to Georgia Street

The countdown is on! With just three weeks remaining in 2016, Downtown Indy, Inc. is gearing up once again for an unforgettable New Year’s Eve Celebration presented by the Indiana Union Construction Industry. On Saturday, Dec. 31 between 8 p.m. – 12:30 a.m., 50,000+ revelers are expected to celebrate New Year’s Eve on Georgia Street with live music, food and drink, fireworks and a unique “Indy-fied” midnight extravaganza. Earlier today, planners unveiled the IndyCar that will be used as the focus of Indy’s countdown, which was then tested and will remain on display inside Circle Centre starting tomorrow.

Headlining the NYE event will be the Jump Smokers, creators of dance club anthems, sure to have you dancing, rocking, shaking and popping. And at 11:59 p.m., an IndyCar hoisted high above the crowd will once again descend to a collective countdown amidst great fanfare and fireworks at midnight. Other entertainment acts include Standout Story, 87 Southbound and Just’A Band and fireworks at midnight.

“The Indiana Union Construction Industry is thrilled to once again join Downtown Indy, Inc.’s New Year’s Eve Celebration as the presenting sponsor,” said John Griffin, Central Indiana Building Trades. “The event is a perfect example of the vibrancy and continued growth in Downtown Indianapolis. As an industry, we were proud to be an integral part of the construction and development on Georgia Street, as well as Bankers Life Fieldhouse. We enjoy watching these projects play a key role in the city’s marquee celebrations such as New Year’s Eve.”

The free evening events will also feature a chance for attendees to step inside out of the cold into Bankers Life Fieldhouse. The Hoosier Lottery Countdown Pavilion will include live music plus plenty of food and beverages.

Sarah M. Taylor, executive director of the Lottery noted, “The Hoosier Lottery is proud to again help thousands of Hoosiers ring in the New Year in Downtown Indianapolis. Just as our players may enjoy the ‘warmth’ of a winning experience, we will offer ‘warmth’ for revelers in Banker’s Life Fieldhouse.”

“Now in our third year, we believe this great civic event is here to stay and we’re excited to bring thousands of residents and visitors back to Georgia Street,” said Sherry Seiwert, president of Downtown Indy, Inc. “Cities across the U.S. have their own New Year’s celebrations so it makes perfect sense that we host our own one-of-a-kind tradition.”

Although hotel rooms are going quickly, guests for this event can stay at any of the Hilton family of hotels in Downtown Indianapolis, the official New Year’s Eve hotel partner.
