Indiana Democratic Party 2-25-17 Weekly Radio Address Podcast

Chairman John Zody gives the Indiana Democratic Party 2-25-17 weekly radio address:

“Senate Republicans took a step in the opposite direction when they undercut an already criminally-modest measure to expand early childhood education by slashing proposed funding by 70 percent.”

TRANSCRIPT:

This is Chairman John Zody, bringing you the weekly podcast for the Indiana Democratic Party.

I’m coming to you from Atlanta, where Democrats from around the country are gathering to elect the next Chairman of the Democratic National Committee and taking the next steps to rebuild our party. South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg has made Hoosier Democrats proud by articulating a clear path, future-focused agenda for our party, and together, we will move forward.

In a surprise to absolutely no one, it’s reported that President Trump has spent 1/5 of his time in office on the golf course. He’s planning on traveling to Mar-a-Lago again for the fourth straight weekend. Maybe someone needs to remind him that the president works weekends.
Trump and his allies continue to roll back progress made under the Obama Administration. Just this week the administration rescinded orders limiting the use of for-profit prisons and protecting transgender students. It’s a clear signal that Democrats must organize to fight back. Stand up and join us. Sign up at INDEMS.ORG.
United States Senator Joe Donnelly is calling for a bipartisan Congressional investigation of Russian meddling into the 2016 election.
In Indianapolis, Congressman André Carson is teaming up with local community organizations and businesses to hold a Youth Opportunities fair on March 6 from 12-7p at the Central Library. Just another instance of how Congressman Carson is connecting Hoosier families to economic opportunities.
In economic news, the fallout from Indiana Republicans’ RFRA rollout continues to linger. Indianapolis-area hotel operators are reporting a sharp decline in hotel room bookings associated with conventions.
At the Statehouse in Indianapolis, House Democrats offered an alternative budget on the House floor this week, including initiatives to fund schools more equitably and eliminate high-stakes testing.
Senate Republicans took a step in the opposite direction when they undercut an already criminally-modest measure to expand early childhood education by slashing proposed funding by 70 percent.
I blasted the move, considering Indiana has dragged its feet on implementing early childhood education already. I’m calling on Governor Eric Holcomb to step up for the sake of an estimated 80,000 Hoosier 4-year-olds and put Pre-K expansion back on track.
Please follow the IDP on Facebook and Twitter. Simply search INDems – that’s I-N-D-E-M-S on Facebook and Twitter, and follow us to get the latest news about our candidates and what we’re doing to hold our counterparts at the Statehouse and in Washington accountable.

Only together can we fight for fairness, the future and work towards a brighter and better state for Hoosiers of all walks of life to succeed in working and raising a family.
Thank you for listening.
