Dan Canon Statement on Representative Hollingsworth’s Vote on Hurricane Harvey Relief Bill

NEW ALBANY, IN – Earlier today, the United States House of Representatives voted overwhelmingly 316-90 to approve a $15.3 billion aid bill to assist those Americans who were affected by Hurricane Harvey. Among the 90 Republicans voting in opposition was Indiana’s 9th District Congressman: Joseph Albert “Trey” Hollingsworth, III.

Following Rep. Hollingsworth’s proclamation of setting aside differences to “stand ready to help our fellow Americans” affected by Hurricane Harvey earlier this week, his vote on this bill shows his lack of compassion and empathy for those whose lives have been devastated in the worst natural disaster in more than a decade.

Civil rights attorney and congressional candidate Dan Canon issued the following statement after hearing of Rep. Hollingsworth’s vote: “We shouldn’t be too surprised that our silver-spoon representative, who voted to take away his own constituents’ healthcare, would deny relief to vulnerable Americans in their hour of need, but this is truly appalling. This vote further demonstrates that Hollingsworth just does not care about anyone but the wealthy.”
