Appointed Sen. Zay’s repeated attempts to replace licensed teachers fails
Appointed State Senator Zay’s repeated attempts to replace licensed teachers with unlicensed replacements failed in a conference committee and will not be a part of the final version of SB 387.
Lawmakers from both chambers say details of a controversial teacher licensing bill are nearly final, Indiana Public Broadcasting’s Jeanie Lindsay reports.
Appointed Senator Zay does indicate the bill will also be assigned to a summer study committee leaving the opportunity to revive the licensed teacher replacement bill in 2019 if he is re-elected.
Gary Snyder, Zay’s Democratic challenger said,
“Zay fails to recognize the real problem is his continued attempts at chipping away at public education and our professional teachers. I was honored to help lead my neighbors in District 17 in forcing appointed Sen. Zay to pull this reckless proposal that did nothing to support our teachers or advance a quality education for all of our children.”
