Indiana Democratic Party 3-9-19 Weekly Radio Address Podcast
Chairman John Zody and the 3-9-19 Weekly Radio Address Podcast:
TRANSCRIPT:
This is Chairman John Zody bringing you the weekly podcast for the Indiana Democratic Party.
As many of you already know, March is women’s history month. Hoosier Democrats are celebrating the profound achievements of women in the arts and sciences, through activism and community organizing – and in public service.
The work of Hoosier women in our state has made our communities stronger and state better. We have come so far. From gaining the right to vote for women to having a record-breaking number of Democratic women across the country in Congress and at the Indiana Statehouse, women are leading our country like never before and it is clear that the future is female.
Through more women stepping up to run for office and winning – we have more Democrats to fight for affordable health care, better wages, stronger schools, election reform, and so much more. When our government reflects the communities in which it serves, we are all better off.
There are still many more glass ceilings to be broken. At all levels in our local, state, and federal government offices, women are still grossly outnumbered. But if we learned anything from the 2018 Midterm elections, empowered women empower women.
The more that we elect Hoosier Democratic women, the more leaders and mentors there are on TV, in the news and in our communities to encourage even more women to run for office. We are fighting for everyone to have a seat at the table and it is our mission to uplift more women, people of color, and young people to join the foldbecause we need their voices.
The only way to make the historic gains like we saw in November is to go above and beyond what worked before. We encouraged women to run and they did. We asked volunteers, Hoosier activists and voters to support their campaigns – and they did.
Now, our challenge is to continue building on that momentum. We need more women running and more resources to ensure their success. So many Hoosiers around the state are ready to go even further in 2019 and 2020.
I’m optimistic of what can happen in our state. We just need everyone to help us get there, including you. You can get involved with the Party at indems.org/join.
