Working people launch movement to hold Trump accountable to his broken promises

INDIANAPOLIS – On Monday, August 21, Hard-working Hoosiers, disillusioned with broken promises from President Donald Trump, will join Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT), former United Steelworkers Local 1999 President Chuck Jones, and Indiana State Senator David Niezgodski to kick off a new grassroots campaign to hold President Trump accountable to his campaign pledge to create “more jobs and better wages” by stopping offshoring.

Activists from the Communications Workers of America have been working to enact legislation that will keep good call centers in Indiana and other states. Niezgodski has introduced the Call Center Workers and Consumer Protection Bill, SB 94, to crack down on offshoring in Indiana, and at the national level, Indiana U.S. Senator Joe Donnelly is a key sponsor of similar legislation.

The “Pickup Tour” will travel throughout the Midwest to galvanize struggling workers in Indiana, Wisconsin, Michigan, Ohio and Pennsylvania — mobilizing an army of worker citizens to take action at the national and local levels.

Elected officials and local activists will draw attention to the fact that Trump has failed to deliver on his promises to put workers first and stop the offshoring of American jobs. During his first six months in office, 140,000 workers received pink slips as companies continued to ship jobs offshore and wages fell by 1.4 percent nationwide.

President Trump has refused to act even as congressional Democrats and Republicans demand that he take bold executive and legislative action to protect America’s workers. Trump has yet to sign a single executive order to ensure that federal contractors, which receive more than $1.3 trillion in taxpayer dollars every year, raise wages and stop sending jobs overseas.

Monday’s event in Indianapolis will be broadcast live on Facebook.

Good Jobs Nation is on the frontlines of today’s war on workers — fighting for the more than 20 million people nationwide who work for federal government contractors. We organize to hold both Republican and Democratic politicians accountable to America’s workers by calling on the President and Congress to make sure that taxpayer dollars reward “model employers” that that create good union jobs in the U.S.A.
