Prominent GOP State Senator Admits Indiana’s Crumbling Infrastructure is ‘Terrible’

INDIANAPOLIS – Republican State Senator Luke Kenley, Chairman of the Senate Appropriations Committee, agreed yesterday with what the state media and everyday Hoosiers have been saying about Indiana’s crumbling infrastructure – “it’s terrible” and “we’re falling behind”. His statements now add a bipartisan call for Governor Pence to put his ideology aside and work to solve critical problems impacting the state’s economy.

Excerpt from WTHR: “Indiana takes great pride being the Crossroads of America, but will it be able to dig out of this hole and stay there?

Clearly the Crossroads of America is at a crossroads on infrastructure.

“We are falling behind here,” State Senator Luke Kenley admitted Monday during an interview at his Noblesville office. “We are struggling,”

All the attention of late has been on the I-65 northbound bridge over Wildcat Creek near Lafayette, but I-65 itself has evolved into a patchwork of potholes, leaving motorists stranded with flat tires… and a deflated opinion of the state that bills itself as a road transportation hub.

“It’s terrible,” Kenley said.” [To read the full story, click here.]

As Hoosier travelers finally see the I-65 Bridge reopen, a closure that led to a direct impact on travel and the state’s economy, Governor Pence has said nothing more than the “maybe” solutions he provided last month. While Pence said he was open to using Indiana’s $2.1 billion surplus, he pointed to a short-term fix in 2016 and a long-term solution in 2017.

Incidents like State Road 156 and I-65 Bridge closures should make it clear to everyday Hoosiers that they can’t afford for Governor Pence and the Statehouse GOP to be late to the game on solving today’s problems for their families. But if history has shown them, Governor Pence will always put his ideology ahead of the everyday Hoosier.
